Australia’s Winter Olympians have just wrapped up a hugely successfully campaign in Milano Cortina, finishing at 14th on the medal tally with three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.

Four of Australia’s Olympic medallists Jakara Anthony, Cooper Woods, Matt Graham and Danielle Scott train here in sunny Brisbane at the  Sleeman Sports Complex.

Jakara Anthony claimed a second career gold in the Women’s Dual Moguls; Cooper Woods received gold in the Men’s Moguls; Danielle Scott won silver in the Women’s Aerials at her fourth Olympics; and Matt Graham, also at his fourth Olympics, took bronze in the Men’s Dual Moguls.

If Sleeman Sports Complex were a country, it would’ve finished at 17th on the medal tally!

Each of the medalling skiiers were also given the honour of bearing the Australian flag; Jakara and Matt for the opening ceremony, and Dani and Cooper for the closing ceremony.

The centre is also training home to eight more of our Olympians, including Laura Peel, Abbey Wilcox, Charlotte Wilson, Airleigh Frigo, Harvey Jackson, Reilly Flannagan, Emma Bosco, and George Murphy.

Having opened less than five years ago, The Geoff Henke Olympic Winter Training Centre is being hailed as the secret to Australia’s most successful Winter Olympics.

The Centre is the southern hemisphere’s only year-round ski-jumping facility, with ramps from 8m to 36m in height, catering to various aerial ski disciplines including mogul, triple, double, and single jumps.

Designed to simulate a snow ski ramp, the 37-metre tower leads into a swimming pool and featuring seven different ramps that enable freestyle skiers to train without having to travel to the other side of the world.

Sleeman Sports Complex General Manager Alex Hutchison said the facility helps put Brisbane on the map globally.

“We’re really proud of the results of all our freestyle skiers in Milano Cortina and it goes to show that this facility can deliver against the world’s best.” Mr Hutchison said.

“Our facility not only delivers medals for Australia but puts Sleeman Sports Complex on the map globally as a hub for high performance athletes.”
